Chimes of Freedom Flashing

Do you remember this song? These are the latest beautiful words running free in my head. They've been there since I saw Scorcese's documentary.

Of the singers of my youth, Bob Dylan had a natural gift for the lyric surpassed only by McGowan (and possibly Cohen, but he was too fixated on seducing martyrs, so he doesn't count -- and don't tell me the sincerity of the words or the integrity of their writer doesn't matter).

Do I remember this song? There's a road that runs parallel to the west of the A15 in Lincolnshire, heading North. My Mother's parents, my Grandparents, lived somewhere at the end of that road. When I was at that age when creativity produces, but doesn't yet shine, my old man stuck in a tape of Dylan that we'd bought him for his birthday. Looking over the Trent Valley, at the power stations along the river, and the beautifully dull stratus clouds above the river, that song made it's way into my memory and has it's own swivel chair there, right at the centre of the department of what never needs to be known.
