Pat pre-game.
One of the Sao Paolo contingent.
A stroll in Ueno Park the next day, pondering what might have been.
Robbed! Still coming to terms with the loss myself. 3 times... 3 times...

Posted by: Roland at December 21, 2005 11:33 AM | Permalink to CommentThe consensus now is the first one was well-off, the second because the ball curled out of play from the corner and then back in, and the third was offside by about an inch. So the third one especially was marginal, but apparently the correct decision. I haven't looked myself, though.
Posted by: Setsunai at December 21, 2005 11:56 AM | Permalink to CommentSaw it this morning prior to going to work. To be honest I could see it was very slightly offside - not the clear definate non-offside that the bbc and then Hansen ansd Lawrenson said. Makes me feel slightly better but not when you see all the chances we missed...
Posted by: Pat at December 21, 2005 6:27 PM | Permalink to CommentDespite my continuing depression on not seeing Liverpool become world champions for the first time it is worth noting that Roland was without a shadow of a doubt the supporter of the tournament with his attempts to do in actions and words what all of us Liverpool supporters were thinking.

if it's any consolation, the whole "world club tournament" is a bit meaningless in my mind. especially given that it often isn't even remotely the same team as the previous year (managers change, players are bought and sold, others are injured...).
having said that, however, i had the privelage of seeing ajax vs. gremio in the toyota cup about 10 years ago. absolutely the best possession football i have ever witnessed! i think ajax won it 1 - 0 in extra time. really mouthwatering (and ball-freezing) stuff!
happy holidays to all and all the best in 2006!

I made the mistake of watching the whole game last night and we absolutely battered them overall. I think the three disallowed goals were pretty fair but in the first minute Morientes missed as easy a chance as he has failed in all the other games this season.
Happy Christmas and New Year to all you guys, I'm home tomorrow to the UK for some home cooking and lots of rest.
