Kacchata

Wasn't it Oscar Wilde who said "I can resist everything except new gadgets"?

I did it folks. I upgraded my equipment.

After six months of telling myself I didn't need one, I went out and bought a digital SLR. Went to Akihabara last night after work with the intention of buying the old model Canon EOS Digital Kiss, second-hand. Came home with the new model, new. As you do.

This weekend, I'm going to sleep on a red volcano. Should give me plenty of opportunity to prove that camera doesn't matter.

Nice looking camera there Tom. That's the kind of thing I've been wanting to get my sticky mitts on for quite some time now. My next camera's going to be a Lomo though. I've already got a conventional SLR (Nikon FM2), but I don't use it that much anymore. I know I should do though, it's just not so easy to upload the goods with conventional cameras.

Luke, I have Canon EOS film SLR that I almost never use for exactly that reason. I don't develop my photos myself, don't have a film scanner and am not keen on shelling out for development every time I take 36 photos.

That's why I went for the digital SLR this time.

So you did break down and get it. I know exactly how both you and Luke feel. I, too, used a Nikon FM2 for more than 15 years, but for the same reason I stopped using it: film is just too expensive. If you're using a computer digital just makes sense, plus you can take soooo many photos while you're out there. I still prefer the quality of color in slide film (digital photos inevitably have that bluish white cast to them) and the endless battery life and the convenience of carrying film without having to resort to peripheral devices for storing surplus images. And I also just like the simplicity of mechanical cameras; they're so much stronger and reliable than anything with millions of electronic doodads in them.

That being said, my photography has once again become a fun, frequent hobby of mine. I take my cameras, especially my compact camera, wherever I go now and use it frequently. That's what it's supposed to be, no?
