Safety in numbers doesn't necessarily work in mountains. A group of 43 (!) elderly snowshoers managed to go missing in Japan's Tohoku region this week. They were found today.

Well, they had several things in their favor... the racket of the snoring surely kept any newly awakened, hungry bears at bay; they must not have wanted for body warmth; there must not have been a lack of morning cheer from the number of ohayougozaimasu's generated; by linking hands no crevasse or river of thin ice could have prevented them from taking a beeline down the mountainside; and, stacked on top of one another, they could easily have cleared the tallest trees to have a scout around. Must have been quite a party!

It's a fair few good mornings no matter how you look at it. Could go on for most of the morning!
